Lijian Zhao, deputy chief mission of Chinese Embassy in Islamabad is tirelessly busy on twitter. He tweeted and re-tweeted more than 200 tweets in 3 days during his social media combat against Turkey and the Western World in context of their uproar regarding China’s treatment of its Muslim Uighur community.
Turkey on Saturday, Feb 9th, condemned China’s treatment of its Muslim ethnic Uighur people as “a great embarrassment for humanity”.
“The systematic assimilation policy of Chinese authorities towards Uighur Turks is a great embarrassment for humanity,” Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said in a statement.
Lijian Zhao, DCM Chinese Embassy in Pakistan responded to Turkey through his tweet. “Turkey’s statement of Xinjiang will not have any effect on China except reduce the Chinese public’s respect for Turkey.”
Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy happened to make it clear in his statement that “It is no longer a secret that more than one million Uighur Turks, — who are exposed to arbitrary arrests — are subjected to torture and political brainwashing in concentration centres and prisons,”. .
“Uighurs who are not detained in the camps are also under great pressure,” he added.
Turkey called on the international community and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres “to take effective steps to end the human tragedy in Xinjiang region”.
In response to Turkey, Lijian Zhao – DCM Chinese Embassy in Pakistan retweeted, “since 1980, Turkey has done lot of anti Chinese activities to influence the mind and thinking of innocent Uyghurs thorough distribution of anti-Chinese literatures, by brainwashing the innocent students in Pakistani Universities and even used their lives to fulfill their agendas.”
His another re-tweet: “Turkey has a long history of spreading disinformation about Uyghurs in #Xinjiang, even in Pakistan they directly funded anti Chinese elements and always tried to involve the Ex-Chinese Uyghur Community living in Pakistan to achieve their desired objectives of unrest in Xinjiang.”
Then he retweeted a tweet accusing Turkey-US Nexus for creating instability in Xinjiang, “I can write a book on Turkish and US nexus for creating instability in XINJIANG. because I witnessed many incidents where Turkish and US NGO’s deliberately worked to mislead or even brainwash the Uyghurs living outside China by propagating and fabricating isolated events.”
From time to time, Western countries including Canada, France and Germany call on China to close down detention camps, which sources say hold a million Uighurs and other Muslims.
Lijian Zhao, DCM Chinese Embassy in Pakistan also hits western world through his tweets and re-tweets.
In one of his such re-tweets, “Did West has any moral authority to criticize China on some kind of hypothetical training camps after butchering millions of Muslims in Iraq, libya and other Muslim countries.”
He justifies such camps through his following tweet.
“It is not a new attempt to set up centers to counter extremism & terrorism. France opened 12 de-radicalization centers in September 2016. US is using community to rehabilitate young people affected by extremism. China is following such practices”
While citing CNN’s news reports about such camps, he tweeted “Inside China’s Vocational Training Center in Xinjiang. Chinese officials told @Reuters journalist Ben Blanchard: “You should have these de-radicalization program in the West. You would have avoided all problems you are having”
He tweeted further, “China has taken many counter-terrorism and de-extremism measures in the region, as it has faced grave terror threats since the 1990s which severely threaten the safety of all people in Xinjiang”.
Then he tweeted and re-tweeted over 100 tweets declaring ‘vocational camps’ a great success to curb extremism and terrorism.
Few such tweets are cited here:
“Various measures taken by Central Government of China & Xinjiang are bearing fruit. Security is tight; vigilance is efficient & more effective because physical, financial &moral well-being of the citizens is being guarded”
“Young boys & girls especially from less developed regions are studying in modern schools, where they are provided quality education, mastery over arts, sciences, languages to complete high school & gain admission in institutions of higher learning.
“China has invited envoys & journalists from over 10 countries to visit Xinjiang’s vocational education & training centers. These centers educate those people who commit crimes. International media shall objectively report on Xinjiang.”
“The vocational programs strictly abide by China’s constitution & law in protecting human rights. China respects citizens’ freedom of religious belief & protects normal religious activities.”
In short, Lijian Zhao, DCM Chinese Embassy in Pakistan is trying his best to undermine Turkey and International rights groups’ call on China to fix wide spread human rights abuses all across China.
But it looks like there is quite awareness in Pakistan lately regarding human rights issues in China.
